Why Keep a Reading Log?
It makes sense that the more you read the better a reader you become. The old saying that practice makes perfect has truth to it. Studies have also proven that keeping track of one's reading, thinking about it, and reflecting on it regularly improve reading habits and foster strong reading strategies among readers. By reading regularly one is also able to practice those reading strategies.
"Studies confirm that individuals which read regularly considerably improve the reading proficiency, habits, fluency, vocabulary, and writing and spelling skills of students (Nation 1997). Furthermore, experience shows that students who actively make reading a part of their day achieve higher scores on standardized tests such as the [FSA]" (Seiberling).
